Happy Bandiversary to Me!

One year ago today on 08/09/10, at about this time I was laying right where I am now. But I was drugged up and asleep. I was just home from having Lap-band surgery. I weighed 213 lbs.

Today I lay here just relaxing. I went for a 2 mile walk with my 5 year old twins this morning. I weigh 143 lbs. I can run 5 miles in about an hour, not quite non-stop, but I'm getting there. I just got back from a 5.5 mile bike ride with my husband and those same two little girls.

It hasn't been easy. Yes, I was a "quick" loser and reached my goal weight in just 8 months. I also suffered a scary complication just after that. A slipped band. I know that had the slip happened any earlier in my journey I would have had a much tougher time. I am by no means at the finish line, there is no finish line. My body is not perfect, I still look in the mirror and see flaws. But having loose skin and possibly the smallest bra size since I hit puberty are the least of my worries these days. I am now modeling healthier eating habits and a much, much healthier lifestyle for my kids than I ever have before. That matters.

One year ago today I changed my life and the lives of my children and quite possibly their children and beyond.

One year ago today I helped break the cycle of obesity.
